10 MUST-HAVE WEDDING PHOTOS

10 MUST-HAVE WEDDING PHOTOS

A great wedding album doesn’t just capture what happened – it helps you feel the emotions of the day all over again. And sometimes, it reveals details you may not have even noticed at the time! A natural and refined photography style can beautifully tell your love story without feeling staged.

1. THE WEDDING SETUP & DÉCOR

Your wedding style and design are a key part of the planning process. I always work closely with couples to bring their vision to life and create a space that feels personal and “wow.”

After all the time and effort you’ve put in, every detail deserves to be properly documented. That’s why I always schedule the timeline to have everything ready at least 30 minutes before guests arrive, so the photo and video teams have time to capture it all in its full glory.

2. THE “WOW” MOMENTS & PARTY ENERGY

All the effort you’ve poured into planning leads up to one unforgettable celebration and those vibrant, high-energy moments during the party are absolutely worth capturing.

By sharing a detailed timeline with your photography team, they’ll be prepared to catch those real, unscripted highlights. And when you get your photos back, you’ll be surprised at how many iconic moments were caught that you didn’t even know happened.

3. THE GOLDEN HOUR

If you’re having a destination or outdoor wedding, there’s a magical window when the sunlight turns everything golden. I always check the sunset time for your venue (whether it’s in the city or far away) and carve out 15 minutes just for you two. It’s long enough to get some stunning shots, but short enough to keep the party going.

4. WEDDING DAY DETAILS

Sometimes the most emotional and beautiful photos come from the tiniest details. Here are some of our favorite detail shots to include:

- Food & drinks

- Invitations and printed goods (tip: bring an extra set for flat lays!)

- Wedding shoes, veil, heirloom jewelry

- Table settings and seating charts

- Bouquets and floral arrangements

- Wedding dress / traditional attire

- Venue details and architectural touches

5. THE VEIL SHOT

Even if your photographer gives minimal posing guidance, veil shots almost always turn out dreamy. It’s such a soft, romantic look a must-have in every wedding album!

6. CANDID GUEST MOMENTS

A good photographer will catch those raw, candid moments even the ones you didn’t see yourself.

The key is to let things unfold naturally. Don’t try to overly stage or control it. The right photographer will instinctively gather groups, find the best angles, and capture every laugh, tear, and big reaction in the most genuine way.

7. NATURAL GROUP PHOTOS

I always advise couples to minimize stiff, overly formal group photos. Let’s be honest! those usually aren’t the ones you end up framing!

That said, there are 7–10 group shots with family or VIP guests that you’ll definitely want. A skilled photographer will capture these quickly and naturally often during the welcome drink hour or before the ceremony - so everyone feels relaxed and looks their best.

8. PHOTOS WITH YOUR BRIDAL PARTY

The morning of your wedding is full of special little moments. Make time to capture them with your closest friends.

If you have two photographers, it’s even better if one can focus on the bride, the other on the groom. Whether it’s matching PJs in the morning or fully dressed in wedding attire, these memories are gold.

9. FUN CHAMPAGNE & CAKE MOMENTS

Forget stiff, traditional poses let loose a little! Actually cut the cake, feed each other a bite, pop the champagne with flair, sip from your glasses or drink straight from the bottle!

I always make sure the cake or champagne area is styled with a great background so those fun moments also look picture-perfect.

10. COUPLE PORTRAITS THAT FEEL LIKE YOU

Couple portraits are a wedding day but what really matters is feeling comfortable and like yourself in front of the camera.

If you’re a little camera-shy or feel awkward with PDA, consider doing an engagement shoot beforehand to warm up to the lens. I always recommend couples meet 1–2 favorite photographers in person before booking because just like choosing a wedding planner, the right fit is everything.

Set aside two to three 15–20 minute windows during your wedding day for couple portraits, maybe after the ceremony, while guests settle in, or during golden hour after dinner.

Some of our couples even opt for portraits before the ceremony, so they can fully soak in every moment afterwards. That might not be for everyone - but for them, it was perfect.
