Bride Khuyen - a person has a lot of special characteristics and a special family. This "Welcoming the Bride Home" had so many "first" things and skipped all the complicated traditions.
Khuyen married Tillu - an Indian guy who is very kind yet sometimes inflexible. Due to the differences in two cultures, the bride wanted to have a true Vietnamese ceremony that delicately could present symbols such as white lotus, bamboo basket, conical hat to impress the groom's family, and friends who are coming from India.
Moreover, to make good of the small space of the house, our team and Khuyen agreed to eliminate the grand table which is usually used for the elderly in the family to gather and talk. Gifts for the bride's family were reduced to only things that the bride could use and skipped most of the traditional gifts such as betel leaves and betel nuts, boiled chicken, etc. which are usually thrown away after the ceremony. The time for the "Welcoming the Bride Home" ceremony was based on the best possible option for all the guests, instead of being consulted by a fortune-teller as many Vietnamese do.
Khuyen's family is very strict in bringing up the children but her parents are flexible with the traditions and extremely open to options. This made us wish that all the families could do the same so that couples could bear less pressure.
The ceremony took place in the appreciation, the warmth, tight hugs, and happy tears of both the couple and the guests.
