How to Make The Most of A Rainy Day Wedding

How to Make The Most of A Rainy Day Wedding

Outdoor weddings are a dream for many couples. However, not every couple is lucky enough to have their wedding during a dry season. Especially for those who have chosen a wedding date during the rainy season, ensuring the event runs smoothly is no easy task. This article will share some tips to help you prepare the best possible outdoor wedding when the rainy season is approaching.

Risks of Hosting an Outdoor Wedding in the Rain

1. Impact on Guests

The first and most obvious impact is on the guests. From choosing their outfits to hair and makeup, no one wants their appearance ruined by an unexpected downpour. Whether it's new shoes or carefully applied makeup, rain can easily ruin all of those efforts.

2. Damage to Decorations

Decorations play a key role in creating a romantic and memorable atmosphere for the wedding. If it rains, fresh flowers will wilt, and other decor items will be affected by the water, making the setting look less than ideal. Additionally, tables and chairs will no longer be sanitary after exposure to rainwater.

3. Wet and Slippery Ground

The grassy grounds, which are often chosen for their natural and comfortable appearance, can become slippery and muddy during the rain. Puddles may form all over, creating a sense of uncleanliness and making it difficult for guests to move around, which can detract from their overall experience.

4. Electrical Safety Risks

Heavy rain can affect the sound and lighting systems, especially if the equipment isn’t properly protected. Although vendors provide protective measures for their equipment, the risk is higher when it rains. This becomes even more dangerous if children are running around the stage or event areas.

5. Emotional Impact on the Couple

Every couple wants their wedding day to be perfect, and rain can dampen some of the romance of the special day. Even if you try to keep a positive attitude, the challenges posed by the weather can affect the mood of both the bride and groom.

How to Minimize Risks?

The rainy season in Southern Vietnam typically lasts from May to November, peaking from July to October. In Central Vietnam, the rainy season begins in September and lasts until February, with rains that can last for several days. If possible, it’s best to avoid scheduling your outdoor wedding during these months. Alternatively, you can consult with a feng shui expert to pick a date with favorable weather.

Prepare Backup Plans

Most wedding venues have indoor spaces available as backups. However, preparing an indoor space can be costly. Therefore, you should consider various protection options such as:

Event Umbrellas: This is the simplest and most cost-effective option. Some suppliers offer white umbrellas that are suitable for weddings. However, umbrellas only provide shelter from light rain and are not very aesthetically pleasing as they require ropes and support poles in the center. This option is ideal for weddings with 50 to 120 guests, especially if the venue has trees around.

Round Pole Tent: This option is more secure and stable, with no central poles and no need for ropes. However, tents usually have dark-colored tarps for roofs and low ceilings, so they may require extra decoration to look more attractive. This option is suitable for smaller weddings, under 100 guests, such as outdoor ceremonies or events in small spaces.

Large Tent with Open Space: This is a better solution for large-scale weddings with spacious areas. The large tent offers a high ceiling and an open space, but it is the most expensive option and takes longer to set up. Once installed, it will feel like hosting the wedding indoors, but the setup process can be complicated and costly.

DWP's Experience

From DWP's perspective, we suggest hosting the reception indoors while holding the vow ceremony and after-party outdoors. This allows the couple to still have the beautiful moments they desire while ensuring comfort for the guests.

If you decide to use event umbrellas, work directly with the supplier to determine where the support poles should be placed, ensuring they don’t obstruct guests’ view or interrupt the wedding program.

Finally, whether it rains or shines, always maintain a relaxed attitude and prepare for the unexpected. For us, weddings in the rain are often the most memorable. Despite the challenges, it is the love, warmth, and enthusiasm from the couple’s family, friends, and guests that creates an atmosphere of warmth and emotion. These moments are something that a typical wedding may never capture.
