How to Stay Sane Amidst the Wedding Planning Chaos (Part 1)

How to Stay Sane Amidst the Wedding Planning Chaos (Part 1)

We genuinely believe that planning a wedding doesn’t have to feel like a pressure cooker. Of course, there will be moments of stress. And yes, some things may fall outside of your control. But in the middle of color palettes, guest counts, and timelines, it’s so easy to forget the heart of it all: you’re getting ready to start a brand-new chapter with your life partner.

So how can you protect your peace when wedding prep starts to feel overwhelming? It might sound like a stretch but it’s absolutely doable. Here are a few simple ways to keep your mind (and heart) in a good place as you go.

1. Make time to prepare for your marriage not just your wedding

Whether you’ve been together for two years or two decades, there are always new ways to grow closer and prepare for married life. One easy tip: spend just as much time dating, dreaming, and talking about the future as you do reviewing vendor quotes or drafting floor plans.

Another helpful option is to take a pre-marriage course. These sessions often open up thoughtful conversations and reveal new sides of your partner, even if you thought you already knew everything. And don’t worry, they’re not only for religious couples.

A bride once shared this story with us:

“The church where we’re getting married recommended a marriage prep course. I don’t follow a religion, so I was unsure if it’d feel relevant. But we actually learned so much about each other even after being together for years. I’m really glad we kept an open mind. I’d recommend it to any couple, no matter your background or beliefs.”

2. Set a clear budget and try your best to stick to it

Money talk can be tough, especially in today’s economy. That’s why having a solid budget and tracking your spending from the start will help ease so much pressure along the way.

And if the numbers start to stress you out, take a deep breath and set aside time to sit down and review everything together. Two minds are better than one, and you’ll feel more in control knowing you’re tackling it as a team.

3. Schedule time to… plan the wedding

Sounds funny, right? But trust us this works. Pick a time in the week when both of you feel calm, focused, and actually available to make decisions.

For example, my partner and I were always drained in the evenings. But Saturday mornings? That was our sweet spot. So we turned it into a ritual grabbing brunch at our favorite café, then planning out a few wedding to-dos over coffee. It felt more like a cozy weekend date than a chore.

Finding a rhythm that suits you both will make a huge difference. You’ll be more efficient, more upbeat, and far less likely to burn out.

4. Set boundaries, seriously!

Boundaries Are Crucial.

This could mean:

- Being intentional about whose opinions you actually take into account (we see you, family group chat 👀)

- Limiting how long you scroll Pinterest each day

- Or simply knowing when to switch off and take a breather

Setting clear boundaries will help you stay focused on what really matters and avoid the trap of trying to please everyone. Share those boundaries with your partner, so you can protect your peace and hold each other accountable when things get hectic.

Leave space for peace on purpose

Your wedding is a huge milestone. But it doesn’t need to leave you emotionally drained. When you carve out space to rest, communicate openly, and set healthy limits, you’re giving yourselves a real chance to enjoy the beauty of what you’re building together.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where we’ll share more practical ways to stay grounded and present throughout your wedding journey.
